It’s important to us that the businesses and divisions within Howden Re reflect and contribute to the culture that we at Howden are so proud of. We are a global business with an entrepreneurial mindset, and we put our people first in everything we do. We value independent thinkers, celebrate different perspectives and experiences, and strive to make Howden a great place to work.

Our collaborative approach and collective power make us an industry leader, but it’s our people who make it possible!

Whether they’re forging a unique path in or outside business, leading the way on community impact, giving back, or D&I initiatives, or demonstrating what it takes to make a difference, we are proud to introduce you to our team.

Be Inspired by: Annabel Gulliver, HR Advisor, Howden Re

Based in London, Annabel joined the team in April, 2024 from London Zoo.

”Reinsurance is very different from the charity sector, but it’s an exciting place to be!” She says. “The speed of change and growth mindset at Howden Re   has already presented me with some amazing opportunities, and I feel empowered working with such a fabulous   HR Team”.

Annabel is a champion of collaboration across Howden Re – one of the differentiators of our business. She has recently launched two projects, Connection Cards and Howden Re in the Spotlight, designed to make it easier for the global Howden Re team to connect and collaborate.

“We don’t work in silos at Howden Re” says Annabel “but even so, we’re a global business and it’s not always easy to know exactly where to go or who to speak to. I’ve been really pleased to be able to develop and contribute to some of the initiatives that make it possible for our people to get to know each other and build stronger relationships, which ultimately impacts our clients. When you open up those relationships by collaborating and connecting across the business, getting to know people that you wouldn't necessarily see every day, you might have a conversation from a different viewpoint, opening new possibilities,” said Annabel.

It’s lovely to know that even in what is mainly an inward facing role, I can contribute to Howden’s client value and make a difference.

Outside of the office, Annabel is training for the London Marathon, which she’s running on behalf of Sarcoma UK. Her brother, Charlie, was diagnosed with an incredibly rare Sarcoma tumour in May 2024. Since then, Sarcoma UK has supported Charlie and the whole family through numerous hospitalizations and treatments.

Annabel, who said she actually hates running and has “never been on the receiving end of a single endorphin” from it, felt that pushing herself to run a marathon on behalf of Sarcoma UK would be a great way to raise awareness for the disease and the work of the charity.

“Our body's ability to move is something that's so often taken for granted,” said Annabel. “I wanted to do something to raise awareness and money for Sarcoma UK. I'm very conscious that a marathon is not the hardest challenge in the world, thousands of people have done it before, and thousands of people will continue to run them. But for me, it’s proving to be one hell of a challenge.”
